Key to the pre- and post-operative care patients receive at The Breast Center at The Medical Center of Plano is the Nurse Navigator program. It matches patients with a deeply committed, highly skilled person who can serve as their single point of contact from initial detection through recovery.
The program offers
- Support for the patient and her family
- Education
- Referrals for outside services (social work intervention, transportation issues, home care, etc.)
Nurse Navigator Eileen Javurek is a registered nurse with special certification in oncology. She steers a steady course through the medical system on behalf of patients and their families, working collaboratively with Dr. Anglin, Dr. Meade, and the other members of The Breast Center at The Medical Center of Plano staff. Eileen knows the patients, the hospital, and how to relay critical information between departments in a timely manner – making the experience easier and less stressful for everyone.
Herself a cancer survivor, Eileen serves as a lifeline for those in need of comfort as they grapple with a seemingly endless list of questions. Whenever possible, she is in the room when a patient learns of a cancer diagnosis. She offers immediate support, and reviews with the patient and her family the proposed treatment options and what to expect at the next appointment.
Eileen also shares valuable educational materials that include tips for eating well and exercising safely while battling breast cancer. She accompanies the patient every step of the way in her cancer journey – answering questions by phone and email, translating medical terms, providing encouragement and comfort, and advocating for both the patient and her family when needed.
